WHOOP launches Arabic-language app to accelerate GCC growth
WHOOP, the Boston-headquartered wearable health platform, has launched a fully redesigned Arabic-language application as the centrepiece of a broader push into the GCC and wider Middle East. The rollout, announced on 13 October 2026 from Dubai, is accompanied by an out-of-home and digital advertising campaign across the region and represents the company's seventh operational language.
For the first time, Arabic-speaking members can access WHOOP's core suite of personalised insights covering sleep, recovery, strain and cardiovascular health in their native language. The company says membership across the GCC has grown by more than 75% year-on-year, making the region one of its fastest-expanding markets globally.
Regional infrastructure and partnerships
The Arabic launch sits within a wider infrastructure buildout. WHOOP has established a dedicated UAE office and is expanding its retail distribution network across the region. Later this year it will open its first international performance research and development facility outside Boston, operating through WHOOP Qatar. The facility is described as a centre for understanding health and human performance in Middle Eastern populations, a potentially valuable data asset given the relative under-representation of non-Western cohorts in wearable health research.
The move also fulfils a commitment made under the terms of WHOOP's Series G funding round, in which Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Company participated. That partnership explicitly targeted strengthening WHOOP's UAE presence and advancing preventative health research across the region. Sports sponsorships with UAE Team Emirates-XRG and Al Nassr Football Club, alongside associations with the Dubai Fitness Challenge and the Doha Marathon, provide the consumer-facing brand presence to support the commercial expansion.
Will Ahmed, WHOOP's founder and chief executive, said: "The GCC has become a major market for us, and we're seeing strong growth across the broader Middle East and North Africa. We've made a significant commitment to the region and we're going to keep investing here."
Market context and competitive positioning
The wearable health technology sector has attracted considerable interest from Gulf sovereign investors and regional governments seeking to build preventative health infrastructure. WHOOP competes in a crowded consumer-wearables segment alongside Apple Watch, Fitbit (now Google), Garmin and Oura, all of which have varying degrees of Arabic-language or regional support. The GCC's relatively young, technology-literate population and government-backed wellness initiatives such as Saudi Vision 2030's health components provide structural tailwinds that differentiate the region from more saturated Western markets.
WHOOP's subscription-led model, which bundles device and data services, is distinct from most hardware-only competitors and may resonate well in a market accustomed to premium membership propositions. The company has raised more than $950 million in venture capital to date and ships to 56 countries; the Arabic launch extends meaningful localisation to a language spoken by more than 400 million people worldwide.
The opening of the Qatar R&D facility will be a near-term milestone worth watching. Research outputs from a Gulf-based lab could strengthen WHOOP's regulatory and commercial credibility as health authorities across the region develop their own digital-health frameworks, and may also support future product claims tailored to non-Western physiological and lifestyle data.
